Beloved Friends and Members of Powder River Congregational,
May Christ’s grace and peace be with you in this troubling and confusing time. This year during Lent, we find ourselves in the wilderness. Like our ancestors of faith, we must journey through an unknown time, to an uncertain future. We journey with faith, not fear, knowing that God is with us. The season of Lent has always been a time of reflection and seeking life, where others thought only death was possible. Since the time of Christ, we were called to be the church, not simply attend church. We are called, perhaps now more than ever to be the church, to love our neighbor, to act with compassion, and to seek peace.
When the congregation met on Sunday, March 15th, we had an open and honest conversation regarding the COVID-19 (coronavirus). After sharing our fears, doubts, concerns, and hope, we came to the decision to temporarily stop meeting at the church. For the next two weeks, March 22nd, and March 29th we will not be holding service. In the meantime, our congregation will be seeking new ways of being in community, new ways of reaching out, new ways of worshiping, and new ways of serving. If you would like to stay in touch, you can contact me, Pastor Nick, by phone, cell (614) 905-2295 or home (406) 436-2834, or by email at [email protected]. You can also follow us on Facebook at @powderriverucc.
We do not know how the next few days and weeks will unfold, as communities and officials learn more about the virus. It is my hope that we seek the truth, respond appropriately and act with compassion. During this time, take rest in the love of God, take care of your selves, take care of your loved ones, wash your hands, and may Christ’s peace be with you, now more than ever.
Grace and peace,
Rev. Nicholas Knoblauch, Pastor
Powder River Congregational United Church of Christ
