(MILES CITY, Mont.) – The Bureau of Land Management will be conducting prescribed burn operations in Custer County this spring when fuel conditions and weather permit safe operations.
Multiple days of burning may be conducted throughout the spring to meet project objectives. The project names and locations are: Rockwell- 665 acres, 7.5 miles southeast of Knowlton; Rough Creek- 3,053 acres, 25 miles southeast of Miles City; Betz North- 5,109 acres, 33 miles southeast of Miles City; Matthews Recreation Area- ~ 25 acres, 8 miles northeast of Miles City.
Project objectives are intended to reduce wildfire fuel levels and improve rangeland health and wildlife habitat. The proactive approach of burning under cooler springtime conditions will help reduce the threat of wildfire during hot months with high fire activity.
