Budding Mathematicians compete in Regional MathCounts Competition

On Tuesday February 11th, the Broadus MathCounts participants traveled to Glendive to compete in the Eastern Division of the 2020 MathCounts Competition Series. Students solved math problems in three testing sessions. In the Sprint Round, students have 40 minutes to solve 30 problems. In the Target Round students solve 2 questions within a 6-minute time limit. They complete a total of 8 questions. Finally, teams of four are given 20 minutes to solve 10 math problems.

The 2020 Broadus MathCounts participants were eighth graders Ciara McDowell and James Augare and seventh graders Archer Edwards, Riley Mitchell, Rebekah Rasmussen, Rebecca Aye, Jayce Schroeder, Tayln Conley, Kail Irish and Maddie Zimmer. This year's team comprised of Riley Mitchell, Archer Edwards, Ciara McDowell, and Rebekah Rasmussen. Team members competed in individual and team tests, while the other members competed in individual tests. The MathCounts program only allows one official team per school.

The Broadus team earned the 5th place trophy this year. Individually Rebekah Rasmussen placed in the top 8 participants.
