Speech and Drama Season is Gearing Down-

Open House will be January 28th

By Coach Caroline Johnson

Speech and Drama is moving quickly to the end of their season. They have competed so well this season. Here is a look back at our last few meets.

On January 4 we traveled to Belfry to compete against 13 different schools. The competition was stiff. Students did very well in preliminary rounds and Luke McAlpine and Megan Johnson made it into and placed in the finals round. Broadus Drama team came away with a 3rd place Drama Sweeps medal for this meet. Practice was difficult over the next week for Samantha, Erick and Deanna as they revamped their pieces in their quest for success.

Practice paid off for the whole team at our next invitational at Billings Central Catholic School on Saturday, January 11th as we competed against 13 (AA, A, B, & C) schools. Samantha Perry showed her talent and brought home 8th place in Humorous Solo. Luke McAlpine, had his personal best, by bringing home 2nd place in pantomime. Erick and Deanna, rocked their newly revised and updated Humorous Duo and placed fourth, another personal best for this team. Megan Johnson took 5th place in her speech event, Dramatic Oral Interpretation. The team brought home two 1st place plaques for their success in both Class C Drama and Speech Sweeps.

This past Saturday, the team traveled to Huntley Project to compete. Huntley is known for their large meets with top competition. They did not disappoint again this year. Our students did great! Samantha took 3rd place in all of her preliminary rounds, taking 9th place overall. Deanna and Erick again wowed judges and competed in finals rounds and took 5th place in their event. Luke placed 6th in final rounds. Megan placed 10th out of 20 competitors in DOI (dramatic oral interpretation). The drama team took home a 3rd place trophy for Class C Drama Sweeps.

Please be thinking of our Speech and Drama students as they compete this next Saturday at B/C Speech and Drama Divisionals held in Roundup. Students will be leaving on Thursday at 3:30 pm.

Additionally, come one, come all! We will be having a Speech and Drama Open House on Tuesday, January 28th at 6:00 pm in the High School Library. Please come and support these students as they make their way to their final Speech and Drama State Competition, which will be held in Bigfork, MT on Saturday, January 31-February 1st.
