The Broadus Hawks Speech and Drama team are having a fabulous season. We traveled to Circle on November 23rd and took home 3rd place for Class C Sweeps in both Drama and Speech events. Everyone did a great job and all went to finals and received placement awards.
After taking some time off for Thanksgiving our troop got right back to work and started preparing for our next meet at Hardin. We traveled to Hardin on Saturday, December 7th. There were over 20 schools competing at the Hardin Invitational. We had a few changes to our events: Megan and Luke continued on with their events; however, Samantha and Erick teamed up for their Humorous duet called The Lowly Magician, written by Erick McConnon. Luke took a 5th place in pantomime, Megan took 5th place with her dramatic oral interpretation, and Samantha and Erick took 8th place.
We continued on with our winning season this past Saturday, December 14, when we traveled to Laurel for the Locomotive Invitational Tournament. We had 3 students that made it into the final round. Luke McAlpine took 3rd place in Pantomime, Samantha Perry took 8th Place in Humorous Solo and Megan Johnson took home a 4th place in her event, Dramatic Oral Interpretation. Overall, our little troupe took home First Place in Class C Sweeps in both Speech and Drama!
On a different note, the Speech and Drama team would like to show our gratitude to the Class of 1974. This group blessed us with the purchase of jackets for the 2018-2019 Speech and Drama season fashioned by Michelle Wilson of The Daisy Patch. This generous act is in memorial of a dear classmate and friend from their graduating class, Dixie Steadman. Dixie participated on the Powder River County District High School Debate Team for most of her high school career. We hope to honor her memory and legacy, by representing our school and community well in our attitudes, preparations, and presentations this Speech year. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and support. We hope to make you all proud!
