The Broadus Junior High Boys Basketball A-team capped off a perfect season last weekend, at the End of Season Tournament at Sacred Heart, in Miles City. The team went 10-0 in the regular season, with their final win of the regular season coming at home, against Melstone 42-14.
The boys went into the tournament in the first seed, which meant they faced 8th seeded Plevna in the first round. Broadus took control early, winning 55-8. Next up was Sacred Heart, which Broadus beat 60-29. Broadus then faced Jordan in the championship, winning 39-16, and taking home the first-place trophy.
Broadus Coach Mike Richards attributed his team's success this season in part to the work put in over the summer. Richards had the boys practicing three times a week, and playing in 16 games over the summer, which he said greatly increased the team's skill level.
The 8th graders will now be tapped to play at the high school level this winter, which will add to the young players' experience significantly by practicing and experiencing the faster paced high school games firsthand. Richards is also the head boys high school coach, which is significant in that young players learn a system in junior high which they continue through their high school playing careers.
The first Broadus high school game takes place on December 7th, in Jordan.
