Lady Hawks play three matches

The Broadus Lady Hawk Volleyball team played in three matches over the last week, including a home match against Wibaux, and on the road at Ekalaka and Terry. By the time the paper comes out, another match, on Tuesday night against St. Labre will have been held.

In regards to the Wibaux match, Coach Gordon Archer commented during a Monday interview that he was pleased with how his girls played against the well ranked Lady Longhorn team: “We had every chance to win the first game. Wibaux finds a way to come back and win, and we haven’t quite made it to that point.”

Wibaux’s tenacity was demonstrated in the second game especially, as the Lady Hawks were up at one point, only for Wibaux to come back and win.

Wibaux won all three games, 25-20, 25-19, and 25-17.

The Ekalaka match on Friday was much of the same for the Lady Hawks – they were in the games but couldn’t quite make it over the hump to win. Ekalaka won in three games, 25-20, 25-20, and 25-17.

Broadus went into Terry on Saturday, facing a new coach and improving team.

“Terry was very much improved from last year, and I don’t know if we went in thinking a win would be easy or what, but they had an answer for Broadus,” Archer commented.

Terry would beat Broadus in four games, winning 25-18, 25-14, losing the third game 18-25, and bouncing back in the fourth to win the match 25-18.

The Tuesday match against St. Labre will count as a conference match.

Broadus will then travel to the Ekalaka Tournament this weekend.

A new addition to the schedule is a match on October 18, at Lame Deer. This change comes about due to Busby’s canceled season.

Broadus will then play Circle and Terry at home to round out the regular season.

Archer spoke of the last few matches of the regular season: “We have to figure some things out and gain some intensity.”
