The Lady Hawk Volleyball team picked up their first win of the season, last Tuesday against Lame Deer. “Lame Deer was better than I had anticipated, but we were still able to pull of the win”, Broadus Coach Gordon Archer said of the match. “They served and set well, but we also played well and confidently won.”
Broadus dominated the Lady Morning Stars in the first game, winning handily 25-14. In the second game, Coach Archer played some of his younger, JV athletes. Even with the young players, Broadus was still able to win 25-23.
In the third game, Lame Deer came back and played tough, handily beating Broadus, 25-15, but the third game loss put the spark back under the Lady Hawks, as they came back to win the fourth game and thus the match, 25-16.
“We played well, and we’re glad to see a win,” Archer noted.
Broadus then traveled to Wibaux, to face the ever imposing Lady Longhorns. Broadus has had a tough time with Wibaux over the past few years, and this match was no different. Wibaux came out strong, beating Broadus 25-9 in the first game, but Broadus steadily improved through the evening, gaining points in each game – 13-25 in the second and nearly winning the third game, 21-25. “We gained confidence through the evening. Hopefully that confidence will continue on throughout the season,” said Coach Archer.
Broadus travels to Belle Fourche on Tuesday (past our printing deadline), and then faces Jordan here Friday evening for Homecoming. This will be the third meeting of the season against Jordan, and Archer is anxious to make the third match the one that goes Broadus’ way. Action begins with JH games at 3 PM, with a bonfire following the matches.
