Arthritis Exercise Classes will begin Monday, September 16th, at the Senior Center in Broadus. Classes will be offered at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays each week.
Classes include a health education component and range of motion, strength building and cardio exercises. Each class finishes with a relaxation exercise, which is a brief, but rest-filled way to end each class.
Participants report feeling increased energy and flexibility as a result of the Arthritis Exercise Classes. People don’t have to have arthritis to attend, just a desire to move and feel better reported Julie Riley, MSU Extension Agent.
Several past participants have said that they are better able to turn their heads and see oncoming traffic when driving, have better overall health, and have more strength in their arms and legs.
“Even though I don’t have a lot of arthritis, this class provides the incentive I need to keep moving!” reported one individual.
“The exercises are gentle and provide movements to keep and increase my flexibility and muscle tone. My last bone scan showed improved bone density!”, reported another.
The MSU Extension-Powder River County teaches and organizes the exercise classes that are sponsored by the Montana Arthritis Program. All classes are free and open to both men and women of all ages. For more information, contact the Extension Office at 436-2424.
