Last minute bidding was intense at this year’s 4-H Silent Auction at the county fair, a testament to the fine craftsmanship and quality of the 4-Hers’ projects. Rheanna Schroeder’s octagon, outdoor coffee table received the highest bid at $200 by Jill Kolka. Justin Aye’s wooden plank bench brought $175 from Linda Kreiner and Jordyn Schroeder’s barnwood end table brought $110 from Matt Walker.
The silent auction was introduced many years ago by Tyler Gardner, a 4-H Woodworking alumni and entrepreneur. Tyler created the silent auction to enhance a 4-H member’s entrepreneurship skills and attempt to recoup some of the costs associated with the project. This year’s silent auction brought $1,296 for thirty items and twenty-seven exhibitors. A 4-H youth can enter one item for each project in which he or she is enrolled.
