Scramble 4 A Cure Tournament raises money to fight cancer

The Scramble 4 A Cure Golf Tournament brought 36 teams of golfers out to Rolling Hills Golf Course on Friday and Saturday.

The annual event has been a popular tournament for years, with proceeds raised going back to the community to directly help those afflicted by cancer and other auto-immune diseases requiring treatment. According to event organizer Tyler Gardner, funds from the 2018 Scramble 4 A Cure provided eight community members with $1200 a person, in order to help those folks pay for their treatment and all of the associated costs of an illness such as travel to and from a treatment center.

This year's tournament grossed over $25,000, a substantial sum which will also go back to the community.

The Scramble was split into two separate tournaments; one on Friday, and another Saturday. Teams of four played each other in the tournament.

First in gross score on Friday was the team of Chad Gatlin, Bram Schaffer, Cass Zimmer, and Lynn Bostwick, with a score of 54. First in net score on Friday was the team of Amy Riley, Bailey Bice, Cortney Gatlin, and Paul Feezell, with a 28.75.

On Saturday, the first-place team in gross score was the team of Hayden Peters, Zack Fillingham, Ryan Dick, and Walt Walters, tying the first-place team from Friday with another 54.

First place net team on Saturday was the team of Jhett Braley, Neil Collins, Troy Amsden, and Allie Keickbush, with a 29.

Tyler Gardner was pleased with the turnout for the tournament, and looks forward to next year. He wanted to thank the Rolling Hills Golf Course Board of Directors for their help with the tournament, as well as Rick Gatlin and crew for their upkeep of the course.
