The Montana High School State Finals took place last week in Baker. The events for the Broadus Team began on June 5th, with the Cutting and Reined Cow Horse. Two Broadus teammates, Chalee Harms and Harley Meged, have been at the top of the standings all year long, and the State Rodeo was no different. Chalee Harms was 1st and Harley Meged 2nd in Go Around One of the Girls Cutting. Go Two saw Harley Meged placing 1st, and Chalee Harms 2nd. The short go came to a close with Chalee having a 1st place finish and Harley 2nd. The year-end results went to Chalee Harms, with Harley Meged 2nd. Both will now compete at Nationals in the Girls Cutting.

In the Reined Cow Horse, Chalee was the only Broadus team member competing. She was 2nd in the First Go, 2nd in the Second Go, 3rd in the Short Go and finished 2nd for the year giving her another spot on the national team.

June 6th began the First Go of the rodeo. Harley Meged finished the day with a 5th in the Breakaway and 10th in the Goat Tying. Chalee Harms was 10th in the Pole Bending. Saddle Bronc riding finished with Tate Harmon in 3rd and Garrett Cunningham in 4th place. Maclain Cathey was 5th in the Tie Down Roping.

The Second Go on Friday ended with Garrett 2nd and Tate 1st in the Saddle Bronc. Ethan Frasier had success in the Bareback riding with a 4th place. Harley Meged was 10th in the Goat Tying.

The Short Go started Saturday at 12:30, with Tate Harmon winning the round in Saddle Bronc and Garrett Cunningham 2nd. They ended the year in the same placing and will both represent Montana in Rock Springs at Nationals.

Ethan Frasier rode his Bareback horse for a 3rd place finish and ended the year at 5th place. Harley Meged was 9th in Barrel Racing, 7th in Pole Bending, and 10th in Goat Tying. Chalee and her partner Roan Burrows were 2nd in the Short Go in Team Roping. Maclain Cathey was 5th in the Tie Down and split 5th/6th with his partner, Trey Dempewolf, in the team roping.

Chalee Harms ended the year as the Rookie All Around Cowgirl and the State All Around Cowgirl.

National High School Rodeo will be held in Rock Springs, Wyoming July 14th-20th. With four Broadus Rodeo Team members qualifying for the Nationals (Chalee Harms in two events, Harley Meged, Tate Harmon, and Garrett Cunningham), the local area will be well represented at the National level.
