8th grade trip turned into drinking binge
The eighth-grade class trip this year turned into something less than had originally been planned. Two of the class members have been charged with illegal possession of alcohol and at least three more of the approximately eight students believed to have been involved in a drinking binge will be charged later.
And, two female members of the class were caught shop lifting at a Rapid City business, but charges were not filed against them.
The youngsters apparently got intoxicated on peach schnapps that one had taken from his parents. Other members of the class reported the drinking incident after one of the students involved got sick on the bus.
Because of the numbers involved, about forty students, the four chaperones apparently failed to notice the behavior of the drinkers, until after the alcohol had been consumed.
Old Denson home went traveling
There was quite a spectator turnout to watch a two-story country home being moved over some 20 miles of road and prairie last week.
The home was jacked up and moved from the former Denson Ranch at the mouth of Butte Creek on the Powder River to the south Charles Patten Ranch, or “old Graham”.
The very nice two-story home, with “balcony type” second story was built by the late Bob Denson for his young family. Joe Considine remembers, “I helped him pour the basement and from there on Bobby did all the work himself.”
Andrew Lewis and his wife, present owners of the “old Denson place,” plan to build a home on the spot from which the home was moved.
Maxine Patten took food to the moving crew and snapped many pictures of the house sailing down the road. She said, “Historically, this is a date to remember - the original Patten land in Montana should continue to have a home on it.”
A trailer house has served at the old Graham since the house burned in the early 1960 decade.
Neighbors granted right-of-way for the tearing out and replacing of fences and some grading. A few small trees had to be cut along the route, and technicians of Tongue River Electric accompanied the house on its journey to lift power lines as necessary.
