Broadus Golf Performs Well at Multiple Meets

Last Monday, Broadus High School Golfers attended the Lodge Grass JV Meet in Sheridan, placing First as a team. The Broadus team consisted of Kye Stanley, Joziah Brost, Jason Standing Elk, and Michael Rumph. Besides winning as a team, Jason Standing Elk placed first individually, while Michael Rumph also placed.

The Varsity team competed in Sidney last week, with Callie Williams golfing a 106, which placed her into a chip-off against another competitor who had also golfed a 106; Callie ended in 3rd place. For the Boys, Troy Amsden placed 5th with an 87, Clay LaPlant golfed a 94, Guille Castellanos golfed a 96, Kortny Cathey golfed a 111, and Kye Stanley a 112.

On Friday, members of the team attended the Varsity Meet in Roundup, for the final regular season tournament of the year. Callie Williams golfed a 111, Kortney Cathey a 108, Joziah Brost a 108, Guille Castellanos won 4th after a chip-off, golfing an 87, and Troy Amsden placed 2nd with an 80.

State Golf takes place next week in Seeley Lake. The Broadus competitors will head out on the long drive Sunday, practicing on the course Monday, and competing Tuesday and Wednesday. Competing for Broadus will be Callie Williams as an individual, while for the boys, the team will consist of Troy Amsden, Clay LaPlant, Guille Castellanos, and Kortny Cathey. The top three scores from the boys will be applied towards the team score.

Last season, Troy Amsden placed 4th at State.

"We're playing really well, and hope to build on that momentum as we head for State," Broadus Head Golf Coach Chad Gatlin commented on his team's success. "Seeley Lake is a tight course with a lot of trees, so playing there will be a challenge, but we're up for the challenge."
