The Broadus Golf Team had a whirlwind week of tournaments, competing in four golf competitions in four days. During this time period, they competed at the tournament here in Broadus, where two Broadus golfers took home first place medals.
Last Wednesday, a portion of the team traveled to Forsyth, where Troy Amsden led the team by golfing an 88, which landed him in 5th place. Three other Hawks qualified for State at Forsyth: Clay LaPlant, golfing a 94, Guille Castellanos, with a 97, and Kortny Cathey, with a 100. Kye Stanley golfed a 112, and Callie Williams, the sole female competitor for Broadus, golfed a 112. There was also a JV tournament last Wednesday in Roundup attended by Hawk golfers; no scores were available from that tournament.
On Thursday, five Hawk boys and Miss Williams traveled to the Huntley Tournament. Troy Amsden once again took 5th, with an 89. Clay LaPlant golfed a 98, Josiah Brost scored a 113, Guille Castellanos a 116, and Kortny Cathey a 115. Callie Williams golfed a 113.
On Friday, the Hawks hosted their home tournament, where Broadus golfers dominated the field on their home links. Callie Williams and Troy Amsden won the Girls and Boys Divisions, respectively, golfing a 94 and 78. The Broadus Team placed second, narrowly losing to Park City by 6 points. Last year Park City placed 2nd at State.
Other Broadus golfers scores at home included Clay LaPlant, with a 90, Guille Castellanos with a 96, Kortny Cathey with a 111, and Kye Stanley with a 111. The JV competitors include Josiah Brost, golfing a 118, Hunter Robinson, golfing a 128, and Michael Rumph, with a 143.

On Monday, the JV Hawks traveled to a tournament in Sheridan, we should have scores from that tournament next week. On Wednesday, the team travels to Sidney to a Class C meet, and Head Coach Chad Gatlin hopes to get in one more tourney at Columbus before it's on to State. Callie Williams will travel to State in Seeley Lake, along with a team of five boys, four of which will golf for score. The top three Hawk boys scores will be taken as the team score, where Broadus hopes to score well against the other Class C teams.
Gatlin commented during an interview Monday: "We're getting better every tournament; we'll be ready come state tournament time."
