Broadus Track Team begins their season in Glendive

After a long winter in which the Broadus Track team was not able to practice on the track for the first few weeks of practice, the team traveled to their first meet in Glendive last weekend, for the Wibaux Meet. This meet is held at the Glendive Track, and features teams from over 30 schools, including large schools such as Sidney.

Broadus was only able to field about half of their full team, as many tracksters were at State FFA in Bozeman. Of the six athletes who went to Glendive, three were able to place at the meet.

Coulter noted that a number of competitors are out for their first season, including a good number of Freshmen.

Rachel Rasmussen, Freshman long distance runner, placed third in the 3200 meter race. Kiarah Coulter placed 6th in the Javelin, while placing 4th in the Long Jump, jumping from the opposite foot she has used in past years, due to an injury during basketball season. Meanwhile, Luke Herzog turned in an impressive 2nd place performance in the 800 meter race.

Coach Jerry Coulter commented that the conditions in Glendive were superb, "One of our best first days ever."

Helping Jerry this season is Jerri Dell as Assistant Coach. Ashley Emmons is coaching the Junior High team.

Coulter is looking forward to fielding his full team at upcoming meets, where he thinks the Boys Relay team should be very competitive. Upcoming meets include a meet in Laurel this week, and a meet in Baker on Saturday.
