Local towing business hits the road

Josh Stevenson of Olive recently began work with Gibbs Towing, a company out of Glendive, to provide a wrecker service in the Powder River County area.

For the past several years, Broadus has been without an organic towing company. Towing duties for those broke down on the highway have gone to those from other areas. Gibbs Towing, which services NE Montana as well as the Bakken area, decided to expand into Southeastern MT when they realized the need.

Stevenson's addition to the community brings a much-needed service back to the area, and includes multiple options, from car towing to big-rig extrication.

Currently Stevenson has three trucks. An F-450 tow rig is set up to handle standard light vehicle tow duties. A roll-back rig allows broken down vehicles to be fully loaded, for example if a vehicle is not able to roll on its own, it can be loaded on the bed of the roll-back. Finally, a heavy wrecker is available to handle semis and other large loads.

Josh noted that the rigs have air compressors, impact tools, and other such equipment to handle roadside breakdowns. If a stranded traveler needs a tire, it will be sourced through local shops.

Plans are also in the works for a roadside service truck.

Gibbs Towing also has roadside response teams available, which can be sent down in case of a major multi-vehicle accident, or if a haz-mat spill should occur.

Josh is a graduate of Colstrip High School, and has previous tow truck experience in Ashland, where he worked for Downtown Wrecker & Recovery. Josh currently lives near Olive with his fiancé, Lisa Smith. Josh will share towing duties with his brother, Brendon Stevenson, who will drive on his days off from work as a deputy for the Powder River Sheriff's Department.

The towing business will be based at 58 N Hwy 59 in Olive; Josh may be reached at 406-740-1428, if anyone has questions or is in need of a tow.
