The 3rd Annual Amanda Gaskill Memorial Basketball Tournament will return this year, the weekend of March 22-24th. The tournament will be held at the PRCDHS gym in Broadus, and is open to men and women who are out of high school. Players may enter as a team or as an individual, where they will be placed onto a team.
Cost to play in the tournament is $50 per player, the funds from which will be awarded to two graduating Broadus Seniors, through the Amanda Gaskill Scholarship.
The tournament honors the memory of Amanda, who was a gifted athlete, lover of animals, and all around good person. She was tragically lost in an auto accident in early 2017.
Games will begin Friday evening, and pick up again 9 AM on Saturday, consisting of pool play to determine the bracket seeding for Sunday. Event organizer Josh Gardner promises “lots of basketball, all day long”.
Concessions will be available during the tournament.
New this year is qualifying for a 3 point shootout, which will be held throughout the day on Saturday with the shootout to be held around 6:00 PM on Saturday night. Anyone in the gym, whether playing in the tournament or a fan, can pay $20 for 10 shots throughout the day and can enter as many times as they want. The top 8 qualifiers will be sold in the Calcutta, and then placed in a bracket style shootout to determine the winner. The winner of the shootout will receive a YETI cooler donated by Jess Lockwood.
The tournament is once again accepting “Non-playing” teams, which consist of folks who aren’t playing in the tournament, but still want to donate to a very worthy cause. These teams will still be listed as donors; non-players are asked to donate funds to the cause.
All questions may be directed to the tournament’s Facebook page, and anyone looking to sign up may do so through the page, titled “Amanda Gaskill Memorial Basketball Tournament”.
Gardner looks forward to seeing everyone, and encourages folks to come out and enjoy some good basketball for a great cause.
