Congratulations to the Speech and Drama students! All three students qualified for state this year at Divisionals in Plentywood.
Samantha Perry, a freshman, competed in Dramatic Solo and did a fantastic job in the preliminary rounds. She may not have placed, but qualifying for a State medal as a freshman is rare and difficult. She did a great job all year and showcased much of her diverse talent by participating in a variety of events throughout the season.
Erick McConnon placed well during preliminary rounds and qualified to move onto semi-finals. The competition was stiff as he and many of his competitors were repeat state qualifiers. He again wowed many of his judges with slight of hand and came away going further than he had in past years. I'm excited to see how far he will go next year as a senior.
Megan Johnson, a sophmore competing in her first year, did amazingly well during preliminary rounds, scoring 2 first places and setting her up with scores to qualify for semifinals.
During Semi-finals many of the students, including Megan, stepped up their game. Megan was awarded a 6th Place State medal for her Dramatic Oral Interpretation.
These students worked hard all season with many of them involved in other sports, clubs, and employment all while competing at award winning levels.
I am proud of all their accomplishments and the opportunity to learn the Speech and Drama ropes with such a talented, dedicated and determined group of students. I hope that many other students take the chance in coming years to get involved with this sport. Speech and Drama enables, encourages and inspires students to be the best they can be.
