Do you have a favorite charity? Do you need extra motivation to get out and walk this winter? Consider entering a team in the Steps for Charity challenge promoted by Powder River Trails and the Powder River County Extension Office. The challenge takes place between February 1st and March 31st. There is a small change to the rules this year in that the older you are, the more your steps count. If you are 70 years of age or older, your steps count extra! See the entry form for details.
Last year, 100 people registered for the event, and over $1,000 was raised for local charities including the Amanda Gaskill Spay and Neuter Fund, the Broadus Cancer Fund and Quincy Strong. Additionally, all charities were recognized in weekly e-mails sent to participants increasing awareness about the important work done by local people.
The rules are as follows:
1) Four people to a team;
2) Entry fee per person is $10;
3) Turn in either steps taken or time walked (15 minutes = 1 mile) each Monday in February and March to the Extension Office;
4) The three top teams with the most steps choose which charity to donate their winnings to: 1st place receives 50%, 2nd place receives 30%, and 3rd place receives 20% of the entry fees.
The deadline for registering a team is Thursday, January 31st. Pedometers to track steps are available at the Extension Office. Join the fun, and contact the Powder River County Extension Office at 436-2424, to register.
