The MSU Extension - Powder River County Office will be offering the StrongWomen program, a 12-week exercise program for middle-aged and older women on Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. until 8 a.m. at the Senior Center in Broadus, beginning January 7th.

The StongWomen program was developed by Miriam Nelson, PhD, an associate professor at Tufts University. The StrongWomen program is based upon years of research on how strength training and proper nutrition improve the health of women of all ages.

“Strength is a critical factor in living healthier, more active lives. Our research shows that a program of strength training improves bones density and reduces falls, improves arthritis symptoms, and increases flexibility and strength,” states Dr. Nelsen. The program is appropriate for both sedentary and very active women and includes floor exercises.

Classes are free, and weights, bands and mats are provided. Ankle weights are not included an must be purchased by the participant. To register, contact the Powder River County Extension office at 436-2424.
