Most cattle work is done in the Powderville area with the early contracts doing much better than the late market. For the most part it was a good spring, summer, and fall, but the harsh winter still showing affects on the cows and calves with numbers down and a bit more sickness than normal and have heard of some poor preg tests, but being ranchers, "Next Year".
I am a little worried about Scott Amende, as he is off his diet as he has been eating food. But I think he is going to be alright as he showed me his new home he is moving into after the old one burned to the ground. He said he had it completely furnished and ready and I got a tour and noticed he had one bed, one easy chair, no cooking utensils, two very large frigs completely stocked with Bud Lite.
Hunting Season! I raised a large family on a small ranch out of Lima, MT, and we had access to elk and deer in our back yard so pretty much lived off of it. We took very good care of the meat and used it all. And now with the deer season in full swing and seeing deer shot by so-called hunters it sickens me. Not all hunters treat their kill well, but many will half dress, cut the gut or throw them in the back of their rig and drive around for three days or more showing off a three point buck with a 16 inch spread and leave their calling card with tracks all over the hills, gates open and Scott Amende's food cans laying all around.
The Powderville community is a great place with great and supportive people as it proved so recently. I managed to sell my calves at the lowest price of the year and I'm setting here drowning my sorrows in what Scott Amende lives on when the phone starts ringing and neighbor after neighbor called to congratulate me on my sales. They said I won't have to pay any income tax. They really made me feel good.
Over the years of buying and selling I have enjoyed Jewing or Haggling over prices, but times have changed. I was in Murdoch's looking at a generator and a young sales lady came up and asked if she could help me and looking at the price tag I asked her if I could Jew her. She smiled and said she didn't know me that well. What the hell does that mean! Do I have to talk to her a few times to be able to Jew her?
I don't mind writing a true article on a neighbor and at this time I'm researching and compiling very interesting information on Ben Minow, if Billy Stuver will allow me to print it. You will have some very interesting reading in the near future.
