The Broadus Hawks High School Football team rolled into Lodge Grass to play in rather chilly conditions, last Thursday. "The temperature was around 34 degrees, with really high humidity, as it had snowed earlier and melted," Broadus Coach Ross Randall commented.
These conditions didn't hurt the Hawks, as their strength on offense – their run game, was not impeded by a cold, slippery ball. Larry Hunt, Corbin Irish, and Tate Harmon ran for a combined five touchdowns.
The Hawk starters quickly set the tempo for the game, and with little offensive contribution from Lodge Grass, Broadus put in their second team in the second quarter. "Our big guys up front helped a lot, we were able to run on them," Randall mentioned.
The cold conditions didn't seem to affect the Hawk passing game, either. Kyle Minow, a Sophomore QB, connected with foreign exchange student Guille Castellanos for two touchdown passes.
The Hawks won the game 56-0, and perhaps best of all didn't have any major injuries. Senior Hawk Troy Amsden is also back on the field practicing this week. This means that for the Scobey game, which takes place on Wednesday night in Scobey (after our print deadline), Broadus will be going in healthy.
Randall said that Scobey has also had a light schedule the last couple weeks, and he thinks they are healthy for this final regular season game. Both Broadus and Scobey are tied for fourth in the conference with shared 5-3 records, which means the winner of Wednesday's game will go on to playoffs. That team will face a tough Joliet team, which has been a dominate force in Southern C.
The Scobey game will be available to watch online at NEMONT.tv, and will available after the game for those who would still like to watch the Hawks in action.
Fairview, Culbertson, and Circle round out the Eastern C teams heading to playoffs. Fairview currently holds an 8-0 record, Culbertson is ranked second with a 7-1 record, and Circle is 6-2.
