Stretch of Highway 212 slated for resurfacing
Prince, Inc. of Forsyth is the low bidder concerning a highway resurfacing project in Powder River County, east of Ashland.
Prince submitted the low bid of $1,467,346 for resurfacing approximately eight miles of Highway 212, beginning about seven miles east of Ashland in Powder River County and continuing east. The project also includes replacing two bridges with culvert pipes.
That stretch of highway has deteriorated over the past several years and is among the worst and most dangerous stretch between Broadus and Billings.
Although crews are presently surveying the highway, no information was available as to when the project is scheduled to get underway.
LaFlamme new Deputy Brand Inspector
Former Powder River County Sheriff Millard J. LaFlamme has been appointed the Deputy Brand Inspector, according to Jim Alexander, Montana State Inspector for the local District.
LaFlamme joins three other local Deputy Inspectors, Ward Gatlin, Tim McInerney and Norman Turnbough. Alexander said that Rosebud County Deputies Bob Corbin and Chris Elwood of Ashland will also soon have inspection books.
Firefighters return letters to 4th graders
(Editor’s Note: Several weeks ago, the Examiner published letters Sarah McGill’s fourth grade class had written to firefighters in Yellowstone Park. The class recently received letters and pictures from the firefighters, and wrote the following story after compiling that information.)
Jen says he joined firefighting because he is protecting the forests, animals and people’s homes.
Jen is a firefighter from Utah fighting the Wolf Lake fire in Yellowstone Park. The Wolf Lake fire burned 107,000 acres.
Firefighting is hot, dirty and dangerous work. The firefighters stay at the fire for a month. Some are far from their families and pets.
Jen says the most exciting thing about firefighting is riding in the helicopters to work each day. He has seen many bison, elk and a few bears.
Jen says, “I am glad that I have been able to save your park. The earth is very fragile and we all must do our part to protect if for future generations.”
