Hawk football travels to Fairview

The Broadus Hawk Football team traveled to Fairview on Saturday to face off against the undefeated conference powerhouse, which is ranked 3rd in the State.

Broadus Head Coach Ross Randall's plan was to use the Hawks' bigger, more physical offensive line to methodically dismantle Fairview's lighter, swifter defense, and control the clock. Fairview's offense has been tough for defenses to stop all year, so Randall wanted to counter with his own offense.

At the start of the game, the plan worked magnificently, as a hand off to Larry Hunt on the third play of the game resulted in a 40 yard run for a touchdown.

The two teams traded scores through the first half, with the Hawks methodically marching down the field on offense, pushing straight ahead guided by their blockers, averaging around 4-5 yards per carry. On defense, the Hawks gave up yardage and touchdowns to Fairview's star running back, but the teams stayed close. The Hawks went into halftime in a close game, down two points, 28-26.

Fairview came out of halftime, drove down the field and scored. Unfortunately for the Hawks, their next drive stalled out, and after an onside kick by Fairview resulted in their recovery of the ball, Broadus couldn't catch up, eventually falling 48-26.

"We played really well the first half, and overall it was a good game," Coach Randall said. "We have a few guys banged up from the game, but they should be ready to go this week."

Broadus will host a tough Circle team this Friday, beginning at 7 PM. According to Randall, his team will have their work cut out for them, as Circle competed well but ultimately lost to Fairview earlier this season.

Homecoming coronation will take place before the High School game, and features Senior Hawk Football stars Larry Hunt, Clay LaPlant, Tate Harmon, Thomas Drane, and Hunter Robinson.
