A sure sign of fall is the literacy based after school program aka “It’s a Bug’s Life” sponsored by Youth in Action and the Powder River Extension Service. Entering it’s 19th year, the reading program will be held on Tuesday’s in October. The time commitment for “reading” partners is only thirty minutes, according to Powder River Extension Agent Mary Rumph.
Adults and older youth “read” with students Kindergarten through fourth grade at one of the sites in Broadus from 3:45 to 4:15 p.m. Prior to reading, the children enjoy snacks and following the reading, they participate in a group activity.
“The purpose of the after school program is to share a love of reading and to develop a relationship with a younger student,” said Rumph, “benefitting both the volunteer and child.”
Please contact the Powder River Extension Office at 436-2424 to volunteer.
