True grit is demonstrated during the County Fair, especially in the showmanship competition during triple digit temperatures, which occurred all three days of the Fair this year.
Round Robin participants competed on Saturday afternoon when the thermometer had reached 106 degrees. It was impressive to see the exhibitors and livestock perform, commented Extension Agent Mary Rumph.
The Grand Champion Senior Round Robin Showman was Callie Williams, who received a jacket sponsored by Powder River Farm Bureau and a buckle donated by Three Rivers Well Service – Tim & Gaylene Fortner. Reserve Grand Champion Senior Round Robin Showman was Karena Appleman. She received an award sponsored by Broadus Feed & Supply – Anipro.
The Junior Grand Champion Round Robin Showman was Kori Kolka. She received a jacket sponsored by Powder River Farm Bureau and a buckle donated by Chase, Shanna, Scarlet and Porter Talcott. Jaxon Bilbrey earned Reserve Grand Champion Junior Round Robin honors, receiving an award sponsored by Jason and Hattie Arithson.
The coveted Amanda Gaskill Memorial buckle, sponsored by Bub, Carlene, Drew, Marni and Garrett Gaskill, is presented to the top Beginner Showman to encourage young exhibitors to participate in showmanship. This year, the winner was Alivia Landa.
Other showman who qualified for the Round Robin included Junior contestants Rebecca Aye, Shaylee Bilbrey, Rheanna Schroeder, Grayson Arithson and Jayce Shroeder; and Senior contestants Garrett Cunningham, Beau Kuhbacher and Mariah Higgins.
Showmanship winners throughout the Fair included Garrett Cunningham who won Champion Senior Horse and Sheep Showman, receiving buckles sponsored by the East Fork Roping Club and Jim and Emily Madsen, respectively; Champion Junior Horse Showman Kori Kolka, who received a buckle sponsored by the Randy Shannon and Owen Rumph families; and the Best Beginner Horse Showman, Alivia Landa, received an award sponsored by Paul and Kristi Mobley.
Beau Kuhbacher earned Reserve Champion Senior Sheep and Champion Swine Showman honors, receiving buckles sponsored by Jim and Kathy Bowers and Family; Carl and Pat Phillips and Andrew and Jeridee Cathey, respectively.
The Reserve Champion Senior Swine Showman was Karena Appleman, who received a buckle sponsored by Broadus Vet Clinic. The Champion Junior Swine Showman was Jaxon Bilbrey, who received a buckle sponsored by Kyle and Teri Lindberg; Reserve Champion Junior Swine Showman, Rebecca Aye, received a buckle sponsored by Ed & Bev Schaffer and Mills Auction Service. Best Beginner Swine Showman honors went to Jayce Schroeder, who received an award sponsored by Bub & Carlene Gaskill.
The Best Beginner Sheep Showman was Danica Schroeder, receiving an award sponsored by the Riter Ranch; Champion Junior Sheep Showman was Shaylee Bilbrey, receiving a buckle sponsored by Dan & Lisa Lynch and Charles Carter, Inc.; Reserve Junior Sheep Showman was Rheanna Schroeder, receiving a buckle sponsored by Calvert Backhoe.
The Best Beginner Beef Showman at the Fair was Laney Williams, who received an award sponsored by Cunningham Trucking. Rheanna Schroeder was the Champion Junior Beef Showman, receiving an award sponsored by Tracy and Becky Anderson. Grayson Arithson earned the Reserve Champion honors in Junior Beef Showmanship, receiving a buckle donated by Dean and Jill Kolka. Karena Appleman was selected as the Champion Senior Beef Showman, receiving a buckle sponsored by the Gary Green Memorial and John & Julie Riley; Garrett Cunningham received Reserve Champion Senior Showman honors, receiving a buckle sponsored by the Karrels Cattle Company.
