Cunningham takes 5th in Saddle Bronc
Earlier this week, Garrett Cunningham and Chalee Harms returned from their trip to Guthrie, Oklahoma, after competing in the 2018 National Little Britches Finals Rodeo.
The rodeo, which featured over 1200 contestants ages 5 to 18 years of age, was held from July 9th through the 15th.
Garrett competed in the Senior Saddle Bronc, against other competitors in the High School age group. In the first go, Garrett rode his bronc to 4th place, but was bucked off in the second go. Even with the dismount, Garrett had enough points to make the short go, where he placed 2nd – which gave him 5th overall in points, and landed the young PRCDHS rodeo athlete 5th place in the nation.
Chalee Harms qualified for National in Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping, Goat Tying, and Team Roping. According to Chalee's mom, Billie Harms, Chalee had to use her young back up barrel horse for the first round, but was able to run her good horse for the second run. In the second round of Barrels, she placed 20th. In the first round of Breakaway Roping, Chalee placed 24th.
Both events had approximately 150 competitors in each event. Her team roping partner missed in both rounds and she had a little tough luck in the Goat Tying, but to finish 20th and 24th in the country in two different events is a fine accomplishment, regardless of other outcomes.
