The Powder River Examiner has gone high tech, with a new online version of the paper now available, at http://www.powderriverexaminer.com . All print subscribers now have the opportunity to view the paper online for free, as well as through their current print subscriptions – nothing will change regarding the mailed edition.
The decision to build an online version of the paper was not made lightly – the newspaper has been serving the area for nearly 100 years in its print form, and there are no plans to change the print edition.
Instead, the online edition is meant as a supplement to the print edition, especially handy for those folks who may be traveling, or those who simply prefer to read their news online…and quite frankly, the digital world is not going away anytime soon, so a decision was made to expand into digital media.
The print edition of The Powder River Examiner will continue to offer a handy, readable paper that doesn’t require batteries, electricity, or technical prowess to operate. We’ll continue to offer the best in local news and every now and then we’ll try and shake things up a little…just to keep life interesting.
The online edition has a few features not found in print – for example, someone looking to publish a classified ad may go to the website, and purchase a classified at any time, which will appear online and in the print edition. The difference is, advertisers have the ability to upload photos to the online classified ad; photos are an option for a print classified, but they will come at extra cost.
Another difference between the online and print edition is that more photos will be available online, and more in color. The realities of printing make it expensive and difficult to get as many photos as we would like into the print edition; the online edition now expands those opportunities for pictures that might not make it into print.
Viewing the online edition comes with a caveat: if a person isn’t signed in, they’ll only be able to see one story, then the site limits their access until they sign in (we’re not giving away the paper, sorry).
One difference that applies to both print and online subscriptions is the opportunity for two and three year subscriptions. Previously, only one-year subscriptions were available. Cost for one-year subscriptions will remain the same, at $37 for in-county, $38 for Montanans out of PR County, and $39 for out of state. Costs for a two-year subscription will be $74, $76, and $78 respectively, and three-year subscriptions will offer a best value, at $105, $107, and $110.
Also, all subscribers may now renew their subscriptions online through the website, via credit or debit card. A secure connection via Paypal assures all transactions are safe, so your card information will remain secure.
Additionally, The Examiner is currently looking for a limited number of advertisers for the online edition, please contact us at 436-2244, or [email protected] if you’re looking to advertise.
