FORSYTH, MT (June 18, 2018) – Twenty local students have each been awarded $2500 scholarships by the Range Telephone Cooperative Scholarship Program. (See attachment)
Range Telephone Cooperative, Inc. Scholarship Program assists high school seniors entering their first year of college or trade school. Each year Range offers up to 20 scholarships worth $2500 to qualified students. Selections for the scholarships are based on these factors: the applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be a resident of Wyoming or Montana and a dependent (son or daughter) of a current member of Range Telephone (with local phone service), or a dependent of a current employee of Range.
“We are pleased to be able to award scholarships to these talented and committed students.” says Rob Johnstone, chief executive officer and general manager, “This is just one of the many ways Range supports our communities by strengthening resources.”
Range Telephone first began awarding scholarships to graduating high school seniors and college underclassmen in 1992. At that time, only six (6) scholarships were awarded at $400 each. This year the Cooperative awarded twenty (20) $2,500 scholarships, for a total of $50,000. Funding for scholarships comes from the interest earned on unclaimed capital credits. In the 27-year period from 1992 to 2018, Range Telephone will have awarded 374 scholarships totaling $598,000.
