By JOE KUSEK Special to the Examiner Some people have a favorite shirt or comfortable pair of cowboy boots they prefer. Others might reach in their tackle box for a special fishing lure or always have the same pregame meal. Jake Lockwood's preference might go a little bigger. The Volborg bull rider is starting to like First Interstate Arena in Billings. Lockwood won the Yellowstone Round-Up in August to solidify his 2023 season and returned two months later to win the NILE Pro Rodeo in the same...

Broadus wrestlers traveled to the frozen plains of North Dakota to compete at the Hettinger Classic last weekend. Broadus Coach Frankie Schoonover told us that North Dakota wrestlers use different weight classes than Montana, and also have more weight allowance, while weighing in the same morning as the meet, compared to the night before like in MT. These subtle differences meant that MT wrestlers were often outweighed by their Dakota opponents, but nevertheless Broadus wrestlers competed well...

The Broadus Lady Hawks were in rarified air at the Brick Breeden Field House in Bozeman last week, as one of the eight schools from across the state who had navigated the trials and tribulations of district and divisional volleyball tournaments to compete at state. Since the beginning of the season Broadus Head Volleyball Coach Monica Smith has preached mental toughness to her squad – that ability to not become distraught when the game isn't going their way, and the ability to push through those low points and give it their all. Last weekend at the Eastern C Divisional Tournament, that lesson was put to the test. Broadus first won a three set match against Froid/Medicine Lake, avenging their loss at Divisionals last season. The Lady Hawks next found t...
