The Broadus Lady Hawks went into the 2C District Volleyball Tournament in Glendive last week as the number one seed, having gone undefeated in the regular season. Their top seed allowed for a bye in the first round, while all other teams in the conference had to play a match. This meant Broadus' first match of the tournament was against Ekalaka on Thursday afternoon. Ekalaka had previously beaten Wibaux that morning, and the Broadus coaching staff knew that facing a team with momentum coming...

With their win against Wibaux last Thursday, the 2022 Broadus Lady Hawk Volleyball team finished their regular season with a perfect 23-0 record, having won all 12 conference matches this season. In the match last week, Wibaux tried a different defense to try to counteract the hard hitting kills of Zeason Schaffer, and the defense seemed to work for a time. The problem for Wibaux was that Broadus' serving was on fire, as the team went 93% on serves, with 11 aces in the three set match. On top...

The Broadus Lady Hawk volleyball team cemented their spot as 2022 District 4C regular season conference champions after beating Ekalaka last Thursday and Jordan on Saturday. Facing Ekalaka in the final home match of the season, Broadus Head Coach Gordon Archer told us in an interview Monday that in his opinion, the Lady Hawk team played decent but not great against Ekalaka, and that Ekalaka had improved over the course of the season. Broadus was still able to beat Ekalaka in three games, 25-21,...
The Broadus Cross Country team raced in Joliet last week, for their final regular season race before State. Runners in Joliet for the Lady Hawks included Rebekah Rasmussen, Alix Heacock, and Rheanna Schroeder. The course in Joliet is a bit different than most Cross Country races in that instead of taking place on a golf course or “across country”, it essentially winds through town, ending on the school track. Broadus XC Coach Ashley Emmons told us that the Broadus runners’ times were down a bit compared to previous performances by Broadus teams...
The Broadus varsity football team finished the season with a 4-4 record after falling to Forsyth 38-0 last Saturday. Broadus was able to stop Forsyth's first drive, but had a tough time getting the offense going, as QB Matt Hansen had limited snaps this season after replacing Cooper Zimmer, who went out two weeks ago against Park City. Later in the game Hansen would go down with concussion-like symptoms and leave the field and go to the hospital to be on the safe side. He is doing well,...
The Broadus Lady Hawk Volleyball team continued to take out the competition over the weekend as they traveled to Savage and at home against Circle, in matchups which they could see again in tournament season. The Lady Hawks led off the weekend on Friday against the Savage Lady Warriors. Broadus Coach Gordon Archer informed us that Savage is currently ranked 3rd in their conference, and with five teams going from that conference to the Divisional tournament, Broadus could very well see them...
A beautiful fall day greeted fans and players last Saturday as the Hawks hosted the St. Labre Braves. The game quickly turned the Hawks' direction in the first drive, as the Broadus defense pushed the St. Labre offense back to nearly the goal line. On the next play, Eli Heacock intercepted the pass and Broadus was in business from inside the defender's 20 yard line. Two nice runs from Broadus QB Matt Hansen led off the Hawk offensive drive, and a Hansen pitch to Eli Heacock put the Hawks up...
The Lady Hawk Cross Country Team ran at Colstrip last week, as they wind down their season and look forward to State. With only one more race on the horizon at Joliet before the State Meet on October 20th in Missoula, Broadus XC Coach Ashley Emmons told us during a Monday interview that with all members of the team already qualified for State, they are looking towards Missoula. The course at Colstrip, which is run on the golf course and features a big hill at the end of the run, was worked into...
The Hawk football team suffered a tough loss last Friday evening as they fell to the Park City Panthers in a close game at home in Broadus. Not only was the loss of the game important for the Hawks, a head injury suffered by Hawk Quarterback Cooper Zimmer in the 4th quarter sent hearts racing as Zimmer was brought off the sidelines on a backboard, having collapsed after leaving the field. Zimmer was transported out by ambulance, casting a somber mood onto the crowd as the ambulance slowly...
The Broadus Lady Hawk Cross Country team ran at the Custer County Invitational last Saturday. The race was held at the Miles City Town and Country Club, a location which Broadus XC Coach Ashley Emmons noted led to nice times for the runners, especially due to the flat nature of the golf course in Miles City. Sophomore Rebekah Rasmussen led the Lady Hawks with a 25:02. Sophomore Alix Heacock, running in her first XC race ran a 28:13, and Freshman Gracey Bradley ran a 28:52 in her first varsity race. Seniors Rheanna Schroeder ran a 29:14, and...
The Lady Hawk volleyball team had a long week of matches last week, as they played at St. Labre on Tuesday, at home against Jordan in a five game match on Thursday, and traveled to Ekalaka for a tournament on Saturday. Broadus won every match, improving to 18-0 on the season, with Zeason Schaffer breaking a school record in the process. The team only had two full practices, one on Monday and another Wednesday, as well as one shorter practice on Friday to prepare for the matches, but were able to...
The Broadus varsity football team improved to a 3-2 record after beating Harlem, last Saturday at a non-conference game in Circle. Broadus came out swinging, allowing Harlem to score once in the first quarter and once in the fourth quarter against the Broadus JV, while racking up 38 of their own points, to finish the game with a score of 38-14. Broadus was solid on offense against Harlem, putting up 351 rushing yards in the game, with 187 yards in the first half and 164 yards in the second...
The Lady Hawks continue to win volleyball matches, advancing to a 12-0 record with wins against Ekalaka last Thursday, and bringing home a first ever win at the Belle Fourche tournament on Saturday, where Broadus won 6 straight matches including a win against Belle Fourche. "I'm proud to see how the team has matured," Broadus Head Coach Gordon Archer commented on the wins. "Last year when we fell behind or lost a game it seemed to take the fire out of us, but this year it seems to motivate us...
The Broadus football team and coaching staff knew going into Homecoming week they would have their work cut out for them if they were going to have a chance against #3 state ranked Joliet, and as the game began on a stormy Friday evening with lightning popping in the distance and rain spitting down from the heavens, Broadus kept that hope alive. Joliet had other plans, quickly scoring against Broadus as the defensive ends failed to seal the edge and allowed the Joliet runners to drive down the...
The Broadus Lady Hawk volleyball team continued their season of excellent play on Saturday, as they hosted Terry for Homecoming. "The girls came out and played well," Broadus Head Coach Gordon Archer commented on the match. "I'm proud of the team; they didn't play down, they played at the level we need to be playing." Lauryn Billing went 25 for 25 on serving with 8 aces in the win, as well as contributing 12 sets, or half of the Lady Hawks total. Zeason Schaffer had 9 kills in the match. Archer...
The Broadus Cross Country team ran in two races over the last two weeks, in Red Lodge and last week in Broadus. Red Lodge featured a mostly flat course, in contrast to the steep hill in Hardin which Broadus runners faced earlier this year, and also in contrast to the deceptively long hills at the race in Broadus. In Red Lodge, Rebekah Rasmussen ran a personal best 26:03 to place 35th overall, and Rheanna Schroeder ran a 28:02 to place 43rd. Both Rebekah and Rheanna raced in the varsity. In the...
Edit 9/22/22: Game stats added. The Hawk football team advanced to 2-1 on the season by beating Lodge Grass on Saturday, with a score of 50-22. The game was originally scheduled for Friday but rescheduled to Saturday due to not being able to find refs for the initial Friday schedule. Broadus Head Coach Wyatt Williams told us that refs from Helena came down to officiate the game. Changes in the Broadus offensive line from previous games provided better blocking for the Hawks, as Broadus went out...
The Lady Hawk volleyball squad won two more matches over the weekend, improving their conference record to 5-0. On Friday Broadus hosted Wibaux, with the Lady Longhorns surprising the Lady Hawks by coming out strong. The Broadus team recovered quickly and was able to take the first set 25-16, and continued to dominate through the second set with a score of 25-14, even with Broadus trying a different rotation to gain more experience for some younger players. In the third set, Wibaux hung around...
