The Broadus Cross Country team made the 10 hour, 600 plus mile drive to Kalispell for the state meet last week, with Broadus Coach Ashley Emmons driving the entire route to and fro in the school van. The 15 passenger van features very little storage space, especially once all 11 runners plus Coach Emmons, along their gear piled into the van (the final member of the team, Sean Oylear, did not make the trip due to knee problems in the week leading up to State). On Thursday the team drove as far...

Hawk Football played in their final game of the season on Saturday, as they made the trip west to the banks of the Tongue River to play St. Labre. With only nine players left on the roster due to injury, the Hawks were left with little room for error. St. Labre was in the same boat, with only nine players suited up as well, according to Broadus Head Coach Brett Emmons. "Our boys had a challenging 1st quarter, as St. Labre was tougher than the team thought going into the game," Emmons commented....

Clark named the outcropping after Jean Baptiste Charbonneau,...

Circle came out hot in the first set, winning 25-18. Broadus shifted the momentum in the second and third set to win 25-21 and 25-13, with the excellent defense of Macyn McDowell proving to be a motivator as her teammates rallied on multiple occasions to capitalize on long volleys and come away with the...

Weather for the Broadus Cross Country Race at Rolling Hills Golf Course last week was perfect for running – a bit cool, to where spectators donned long sleeve shirts and pants, with no precipitation falling on the green grounds of the course. The hilly course climbs several hills along its route, with two laps for the high school runners over the 3.1 mile run meaning those hills had to be climbed...twice. Due to the hilly nature of the course, race times are not comparable to other flat c...

The Lady Hawk Varsity Volleyball team racked up another conference win over the weekend against Busby, while also winning the consolation bracket of the Belle Fourche Tournament on Saturday. In the match against Busby, Coach Monica Smith had her team work on playing the ball more efficiently than they had in previous matches, which meant that their offense consisted of offspeed hits and tips into open parts of the defensive floor – a stark contrast to the hard hitting spikes that have been t...
Broadus fell to Ekalaka on the football field last Saturday. The Hawks put up 28 points in the loss, while Ekalaka put down 56 points to go to 3-0 in conference play. "Our problem was consistency," Broadus Head Coach Brett Emmons told us earlier this week. "We had some good drives where we walked down the field and scored, but then we had some drives where penalties and other mistakes hurt us," he said. The Hawks were led in scoring by QB Jayce Schroeder's three rushing touchdowns; Jayce also...

After Lodge Grass arrived in Broadus, the Hawks made quick work to put up three touchdowns in the first quarter. Lodge Grass ran in one touchdown...
Broadus Cross Country ran in Baker last weekend, in Baker's inaugural XC meet. Broadus Coach Ashley Emmons told us that this is Baker's first year with an XC team, and the course, which was run on the Lakeview Country Club Golf Course, was a mostly flat course that allowed the runners to put down some great times. Those times were so good that six Broadus runners made new personal records in the race. Additionally, the Broadus Boys placed 1st out of a field of four complete teams. Coach Emmons t...

Broadus Coach Monica Smith told us the challenge going into the match was to try and keep the energy high and to play at the level that Broadus is capable of playing. Monica thought the team d...
The Broadus Lady Hawk volleyball team continues to win, as they took conference matches at Ekalaka and at home against Forsyth over the weekend. Broadus lost one set in each match, winning in four sets against the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Dogies. Broadus Head Coach Monica Smith told us that the single set losses were in part to Broadus losing focus, but after regrouping the team and being coach to "raise the level of play", they came out firing on all cylinders and won the matches. Sophomore G...
Broadus raced against a number of South Dakota and Wyoming teams such as Belle Fourche, Spearfish, Hulett and Newcastle at the Belle Fourche Invitational Cross Country Meet, held Thursday, September 7th. The deceptively hilly race was run at the golf course, with runners telling Coach Ashley Emmons that they’d rather go back to run the steep heights of Gas Cap Hill at the Hardin race than face the long, nearly constant hills in Belle Fourche. Despite the hilly course, Broadus performed quite well in relation to similar sized schools. The B...
Hawk football fell 75-8 to the state number 1 ranked Fairview Warriors, last weekend in Fairview. Broadus managed to score one touchdown in the fourth quarter against Fairview's younger subs, but overall didn't have an answer for Fairview's offensive juggernaut, as they racked up 42 points in the first quarter to sending the game into a running clock. Fairview scored 7 more in the second quarter then coasted, as Broadus put up 51 yards of total offense. We spoke with Broadus Head Coach Brett...
