  • Hawk Wrestlers Compete In Glasgow

    Dec 19, 2024

The Broadus Wrestling team traveled to Glasgow over the weekend for the Scottie Invitational, sleeping on the gym mats overnight. Coach Frankie Schoonover told us that sleeping on the mats was a great team building exercise that the kids loved, though he wasn’t nearly as enthused about the idea of sleeping on the cold hard mats, being 41 years old and more comfortable in a bed (the editor can definitely relate). Frankie said that all in all the wrestlers did a great job coming together as a team at the tournament, supporting each other as t...

  • Sports Realignment Will Place Broadus In Eastern Division Basketball

    Dec 5, 2024

At the November Montana High School Association meeting, a divisional realignment of class C teams took place. The realignment, several years in the making, was meant to balance out teams amongst divisions as well as across sports, and will go into effect in the 2025-26 school year. The new alignment places teams into similar divisions across basketball, volleyball, and track. Football in Class C does not follow the same guidelines, due to the differentiation between 8 man and 6 man conferences, and sports such as golf, cross country, and...

  • Broadus Will Officially Join The 6 Man Football Ranks

    Dec 5, 2024

The Hawks will move from 8 man football to 6 man football in the 2025 season, with the move approved by the Montana State High School Association at their November 25th meeting. The move comes after decisions were made earlier this year in local school board meetings, due to limited player numbers in Broadus. 6 man football carries a number of different rules compared to 8 or 11 man football, and final scores often look more like basketball scores than the football scores of 11 man – for instance, in the 6 man state championship this season, B...

The previous weekend, Broadus had lost to Jordan at Jordan, and the Lady Hawks responded well to the loss to come back for a four set win. Broadus won the first set 25-23, but lost some of their concentration in the second, losing 19-25. They rallied in the third, controlling those things they could control, as...

  • Hawk Football Finishes Season With A Win

    Oct 31, 2024

As football season wound towards its finale, Hawk football faced one final test this season, against Poplar on Friday night. The Hawks hosted the game in Broadus, with conditions hovering in the low 40s with a light breeze for the evening game. Poplar won one game this season, via forfeit from Wibaux, but were otherwise in the same boat as Broadus, who had yet to win a game. That meant that at the end of the night, one team would have their first win by playing a game – and Broadus would u...

Broadus Cross Country ran at the State XC Meet in Missoula on Saturday. The team made the journey across the state over a two day span, getting a preview of the course on Friday. Broadus XC Coach Ashley Emmons told us the state course is reminiscent of Broadus' own home course, with a long hill at the start and another steep hill – the similarity is such that other coaches' teams who had run in Broadus commented to her on the similarity, and expressed their thanks for having run in Broadus as i...

The Hawk football team traveled to Plentywood on Thursday, October 17th. • Lady Hawks Beat Forsyth Handily, Suffer Tough Loss At Jordan

    Oct 24, 2024

In the first meeting of the season against Forsyth, the Lady Hawk volleyball squad had a challenging time against their Rosebud County rivals, with the teams trading blows and the match going to five sets and Broadus coming back to win in the fifth set by the skin of their teeth. The second time around, last Thursday in Forsyth, the Lady Hawks were much more focused, according to Head Volleyball Coach Monica Smith. That increase in focus helped lock in the team's defense and offense, and helped...
