Local health officials encourage rabies vaccination of pets (cost approximately $20) On June 13, 2023, DPHHS received the first report of a rabid animal this year. A striped skunk in Powder River County tested positive for rabies. Last week a second rabid skunk was identified in the county. In 2022, 13 animals submitted for rabies testing to the Montana Department of Livestock (DOL) were positive for rabies (nine bats, three skunks, and one dog). The local cancer is hosting a dessert auction on the 4th of July in Broadus. Desserts will be located in the Senior Center, where a silent auction will be held.
