    September 7, 1923 Bill Ramer Paralyzed by Fall; Crawls Half a Mile Bill Ramer, residing in the Coalwood country fell from his horse Monday afternoon, sustaining bruises to his back that caused a paralysis to his lower limbs. He was alone at the time and to find aid he adopted the only course, that of crawling almost inch by inch half a mile to the county road.     Area weather was fairly typical for August, with several days topping 100 degrees, intermixed by occasional rain showers. August is normally the fifth wettest month for Broadus, following May, June, April, then July. This year Broadus received .83”, compared to an average of 1.28”. 100 degree temps were reached on three days, including a 102 high on August 22nd which turned out to be a record high for that date.     HELENA – Starting August 24, all Montana property tax rebates will be sent by paper check in the mail. To reduce the risk of fraud perpetuated by scam artists, the Montana Department of Revenue removed the option for taxpayers to receive the property tax rebate by direct deposit.     A plane crash in the Southeastern Custer County area hospitalized two people earlier this month. A preliminary FAA report indicated that around 6:30 PM on August 10th a Piper J3 Cub crashed under unknown circumstances, approximately 22 miles East/SE of Miles City. Local ranchers, along with Custer County and Miles City emergency personnel responded to the crash, piloted by Shane Balsam.     The Broadus VFD, along with assets from Custer County and Federal resources responded to the 831.6 acre Upper Mizpah Fire on August 18th. The fire was in Custer County, approximately 27 miles north of Broadus, and was contained and controlled by the 19th, Saturday.
