A dedication ceremony for the Powder River Memorial Cemetery took place last Saturday. Powder River County has recorded its first COVID-19 case, with a local individual testing positive in mid-July. The official release did not state details about the individual, but we’ve independently verified the case as a female in her 30s, who acquired the virus on an out of state trip. In a press release from July 23, Powder River Health confirmed that the individual began showing symptoms on July 16th, and contact tracing identified individuals who had close contact with the patient. Last Wednesday a large fire kicked off on Buffalo Creek, in South Central Powder River County near the Wyoming border. The fire is believed to have started from a burning coal seam, which ignited during a 3000 acre fire in 2017. Marla Drga was gone visiting her mother Rosalie Ostendorf while Mark and Christina and family were visiting Hal Vosen and celebrating his 80th birthday. While there Hal had an accident and broke his neck. He is doing well in rehab after a big surgery. Neighbors came together and battled a fire over by Birds. It was put out quickly.
