In local elections, John Olson won the County Commissioner race against Incumbent Rod Schaffer. Olson, an Independent, picked up 603 votes, compared to Republican candidate Schaffer’s 492 votes. Schaffer narrowly won the primary election over challenger Ted Amsden by a margin of 48 votes. Drought conditions persisted across Powder River County through the first half of October, with scant precipitation and high temps topping out at 85 in Broadus during the first two weeks of the month.
