    The local weather during the month of January was cold and dry – fairly normal for the month of January in Southeastern Montana. Several incidences of snow occurred across the region over the course of the month, with warmer temps later in the month to melt the majority of the snow, other than in shadier portions of the high country.     Helena, Mont. – On Saturday, January 1, 2022, the Montana Department of Livestock (MDOL) Brand Rerecord period ended. Brand Rerecord is a one year period in which Montana brand owners renew their brands with the state to ensure an accurate record of livestock brands that are still in use. Brand Rerecord began in 1921 and occurs every ten years. As of January 1st, 2021, there were 55,567 brands recorded with the Department of Livestock.
