    On Monday, the County Commissioners signed Resolution 2021-27, initiating Stage 1 fire restrictions across Powder River County, effective immediately. Under Stage 1 restrictions, campfires are prohibited, as are fireworks and smoking outside of a closed vehicle, except within a minimum three foot cleared or barren area.   • Storm Brings Wind and Fires

    A storm last Thursday carrying some lightning, some rain, and a lot of wind swept across the county, leaving a path of broken branches and small fires in its wake. Broadus received 0.12" of rain in the storm, while areas to the south received no moisture. Reports of heavier rain also trickled in from around the county. This is the 6th time we have hosted a “4K” group. They love our Broadus hospitality of home-cooked dinner and breakfast, hot showers, laundry and an evening trip to the pool.     Bozeman, MT (July 20, 2021 ) – The Custer Gallatin National Forest is implementing additional Stage 1 Fire Restrictions beginning July 21, 2021 at 0001.     July 22, 1921 Homestake Doing Local Coal Work Joe Marengo, accompanied by another man, arrived Monday night from Lead, S.D., to work at the Sand Creek coal bank this summer in the interests of the Homestake Mining Company. He brought with him a supply of tools and is prepared to stay until fall. It is said that Marengo will improve the roadway from John Rogge’s place to the mine, making it more accessible for teams and wagons.
