The restaurant at Powder River Lanes is back open after a broken sprinkler system flooded the bowling lanes the third week of December. January 3, 1947 Broadus Landmark Was Destroyed By Fire Fire completely destroyed the Star Theater in Broadus Saturday night. Efforts of the Broadus Volunteer Fire Department to stem the blaze were to no avail as the whole building was afire at the time that the alarm was sounded. The District Court is a passport acceptance facility, which those seeking a passport for the first time much utilize to complete their application. In this week’s issue, the Broadus Elementary students have helped provide much of the content in the form of Christmas stories, poems, and drawings. The fifth grade class draws holiday related pictures, which we take around to local businesses. The businesses chose their favorite drawings, and we make special holiday themed ads for those businesses. Joey Williams of Volborg brought home over 14,000 dollars from the Wranger National Finals Breakways Roping, held earlier this month in Las Vegas. Williams was featured in our October 28th issue, where writer Joe Kusek detailed her rise to prominence in the breakaway roping sport. Williams finished 10th during the season going into the finals, with over $44,000 in winnings over the course of the year. This year’s winners of the Powder River Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture’s Christmas Lighting Concert was a combined group. The Wilbur Avenue “Griswald Street”, consisting of decorations by Rich & Melinda Biesheuvel, Scott Cain & Mary Bordeaux, and the Allan Reaves Family. December 20, 1946 County Leads in Alfalfa Seed Production Powder River County raises more alfalfa seed than any other county in Montana, a report of the Agricultural Conservation Association compiled for the year 1945 discloses. The total amount of alfalfa seed harvested here in 1945 was 1,150,967 lbs. which was grown on 220 farms, the report shows.
