    Two state grants were recently awarded locally – one grant for $750,000 to Powder River County, which will help to replace the Moorehead Bridge, and another grant of the same amount to Broadus Schools, which will assist in the high school re-roofing project. The Delivering Local Assistance (or DLA) grants were enacted in 2019 through MT House Bill 652, in order to help local governments and school districts in Montana to complete infrastructure projects.     By Shane Copps Community Integrated Healthcare (CIH), also known as Community Paramedicine, is now in operation in Broadus. This program is a pilot project through the State of Montana DPHHS EMS and Trauma Division.   • Volunteer Fire Department responds to rash of structure fires

    Between January 15th and Valentine’s Day, the Broadus Volunteer Fire Department responded to three separate structure fires around the county. On January 15th, a shop at the Landa Ranch near Boyes caught fire and succumbed to the flames. Broadus Fire Chief Raymond Ragsdale told us the cause was either a wood stove or electrical fire.     Due to increases in postal mailing rates, we unfortunately need to increase our subscription rates across the board, by $1.     The Broadus varsity basketball teams hosted Melstone on Friday, for the final home games of the season, before traveling to Terry on Saturday, for the final regular season games.     The County Predator Control Board met on Tuesday for their annual budget meeting. The Board passed motions to elect Arnie Mader as President, and Mike Moullet as Secretary. While discussing the budget and the use of funds, the efficacy of the coyote denning program came up. Students solved math problems in three testing sessions. In the Sprint Round, students have 40 minutes to solve 30 problems.     Helena, Mont. – On Tuesday February 12th, the Montana Department of Livestock (MDOL) reported the first case of terrestrial (non-bat) rabies in the state in 2020. The rabies-infected skunk was captured in Big Horn County. There are no known cat, dog, or human exposures at this time.
