    Broadus Hawk Wrestling started the season with a very competitive meet at the Sidney Eagle Invitational, December 1st and 2nd. The meet features teams from 24 schools, as far flung as Colorado and Idaho, as well as larger teams such as Williston, Minot, and Dickinson, ND, Rapid City, SD, and larger schools from Eastern MT.     Broadus high school basketball started off their season with wins at the Coach Connors Classic in Miles City over the weekend. The tournament features "contender" teams from around Eastern and Southern Montana (from the 2C,3C,4C, and 5C districts), including Broadus, Circle, Ekalaka, Plentywood, Melstone, North Country, Jordan, Savage, Scobey, and Harlowton/ Ryegate.     Weather conditions in November were exceptionally dry across Powder River County, with above normal average temperatures for the month. Broadus received a trace of precipitation on the month, falling on November 3rd. A “trace” is defined by the National Weather Service as an amount less than 0.01”. November is normally the second driest month of the year, averaging 0.47” of precipitation. January is the driest, averaging 0.43”.     Five members of the Broadus FFA chapter went to Nationals in Indianapolis at the end of October, including Shelby Anderson, Jayce Schroeder. Archer Edwards, Becca Aye, and Raiden Aurand. Broadus rode the bus to and from the event with students from Miles City and Baker. On the way down, the students toured Rosenbauer (a fire-truck manufacturer), the Bridgestone tire plant, the National Animal Disease Center, Fair Oaks Dairy, and White Water Agritourism.     David Ira Harris was born July 15, 1942 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. He was the oldest of 3 born to Jimmy and Jessie Harris. His siblings are Donna Weeden (Harry), and Dixie Knutson (Pete). Dave grew up on the Harris Family ranch near Ridge Montana. The distance was too great for a daily drive when he reached the age of high school, so off to Belle Fourche he went where he stayed with a widower friend of his mother's and her son Harvey.     Gerhard W. Helm, age 93, passed away on November 28th, 2023, in his home on the Tongue River with loved ones at his side. Gerhard (Gary) was born in his childhood home at Watson Flats near Rocks Springs, MT to Johann and Eva Helm. He was the youngest of eight living children. Later, as a young man, he would remodel that home and make it his home with his beloved wife Pat for many years.     MILES CITY – Sunday’s close of the deer and elk general season saw relatively mild weather and a mixed bag for hunter numbers and harvest rates at check stations around southeast Montana. Ashland Hunters experienced fair weather for this time of year during the deer and elk closing weekend. A total of 47 parties and 81 hunters came through the Ashland check station, with a harvest success rate of 30 percent (8 percent below the 10-year average).
