Powder River County's very own champion, Jess Lockwood, secured his spot in history with a dominant win last weekend at the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas. The former Broadus high school State Champion wrestler is now a two-time PBR World Champion, winning his first championship in 2017. This is our largest fund-raising event of the year to support this rural home for developmentally disabled men. The event will include a dinner with beef stew and pumpkin cake, live auction and bucket drawing for all kinds of special items. There will also be free child care. Broadus hosted a pair of Veterans Day Services on Monday, November 11. The youth of Broadus Schools performed a Veterans Day program, with several local vets in attendance to witness the event. The First Grade class recited a poem, and Senior Luke Herzog then read aloud his Voice of Democracy submission. The Broadus School Board met Monday night for their monthly meeting. On the agenda was the consideration of hiring a substitute teacher, the closing or combining of several activity fund accounts, the consideration of allowing 8th grade participation in high school boys and girls basketball, and considering recommendations of the buildings and grounds committee in regards to the high school roof. Kenneth James Johnstone, 71, passed away Monday, November 11, 2019 at his home in Broadus, MT. Born and raised as a brave cowboy in Ekalaka, MT, the son of Johnny and Dorothy Johnstone, he graduated from Carter County High School in 1966.
