The Broadus Hawk Varsity Football team finished out their season last week with two home games, on Tuesday against the Circle Wildcats, and Friday night against the Forsyth Dogies. Cold conditions both games made for an added challenge for fans, officials, and players alike, with few complaints overheard about the need for COVID face coverings on the field – a mask helped guard the nose from the cold! The Hawks were hampered by a safety early against Circle, but kept the game close through t...

The Broadus Lady Hawk Cross Country team made the long drive to Kalispell last week for the State Meet. The team left Thursday to much fanfare from the PRCDHS student body, seeing their team off in front of the school and being escorted out of town by a chorus of fire trucks. The Cross Country team headed west into the maw of an October storm which would cover most of Montana by the end of the weekend. The trip up to Kalispell went well, but by Friday the storm began to dump snow on the course,...
Jean Ora Cathey Hough passed away at her home in Broadus on October 24, 2020. She was born February 24, 1929, in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, the third of ten children of Gerald and Ursula Beilage Cathey. The Cathey's were sheep ranchers from Carter County, Montana. In the early 1930s, due to drought conditions, the family moved to Belle Fourche where Jean attended first and second grade. In 1936, improved conditions allowed the family to return to the Carter County ranch. While living at her...
The Lady Hawk volleyball team finished their regular season on a high note this Saturday, as they hosted Plevna and Ekalaka on Homecoming. While the conditions outside were rather miserable with a snow storm blowing in cold air, the action inside the gym was red hot, as the Lady Hawks beat both Plevna and Ekalaka in straight sets. Broadus Head Coach Gordon Archer was able to start his JV team against Plevna, a move which allowed him to gain much needed experience for his younger players and...

By Annie Brimmer Veterans, the “virus” has caused many things to be canceled, rescheduled, or modified this year. It has not changed our appreciation for all you gave and sacrificed to protect and serve this great country, the United States of America. Whether it was from the time our forefathers gave to create a “more perfect union” or the conflicts of more recent times, on native soil or in foreign lands, you gave and sacrificed. You did this on land, sea, and air. Veterans have helped with non-combat issues as well as combat. Some gave al...
Courtesy MT FWP To prevent paper licenses and carcass tags from getting wet and unreadable, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks recommends hunters keep these documents in a sealable plastic bag. Hunters are encouraged to keep their licenses and carcass tags in plastic bags both before and after validating and attaching to a harvested animal. Earlier this year, FWP switched to regular paper for licenses and permits. While handier for printing at home, this makes the licenses and permits more susceptible to water damage. Customers can also keep a d...
