    The Broadus Lady Hawk volleyball team cemented their spot as 2022 District 4C regular season conference champions after beating Ekalaka last Thursday and Jordan on Saturday. Facing Ekalaka in the final home match of the season, Broadus Head Coach Gordon Archer told us in an interview Monday that in his opinion, the Lady Hawk team played decent but not great against Ekalaka, and that Ekalaka had improved over the course of the season.     October 20, 1922 Hauling Culverts and Bridge Steel from Miles Pete Whiting and Ira S. Patton on Tuesday delivered the first loads of bridge steel and corrugated culverts at the courthouse square in Broadus, hauling the road equipment from Miles City with teams and wagons. Perry Rolfe delivered another load on Wednesday and Albert Jesse and others are on the road with additional loads.     The Broadus Cross Country team raced in Joliet last week, for their final regular season race before State. Runners in Joliet for the Lady Hawks included Rebekah Rasmussen, Alix Heacock, and Rheanna Schroeder. The course in Joliet is a bit different than most Cross Country races in that instead of taking place on a golf course or “across country”, it essentially winds through town, ending on the school track.     Ross Ridley Denson, Powder River County rancher and lifelong resident of the community, passed away peacefully at the Powder River Manor on October 9, 2022. Ross, the oldest son of Alex and Susie (Borchgrevink) Denson, was born on March 20, 1928, in Deadwood, South Dakota. He spent his early years on the family ranch at Ranch Creek.     The Broadus varsity football team finished the season with a 4-4 record after falling to Forsyth 38-0 last Saturday. Broadus was able to stop Forsyth's first drive, but had a tough time getting the offense going, as QB Matt Hansen had limited snaps this season after replacing Cooper Zimmer, who went out two weeks ago against Park City.     MILES CITY – The general fall hunting season for black bears without hounds in southeast Montana’s Black Bear Management Unit 700 closed one-half hour after sunset on Saturday, October 15.
