The Powder River County Sheriff's Department has hired a new deputy. Last week, Ayche (pronounced like the letter "H") Draine donned his vest for the first time. If Ayche's last name sounds familiar, it's because he is a cousin to the Draine family of Boyes. During an interview this week, Ayche said his grandfather, Harlan, was from the area, and Ayche spent time here when he was growing up. Ayche is named after his great-grandfather. The Draine and Drane families are distantly related, so when...

The high point ride came against Heartbreak Kid, a bull which had bucked off the last 38 riders who attempted to last eight seconds on the buff bovine’s back. Jess was able to break Heartbreak Kid’s strea...

Lodge Grass's defensive line features some large athletes, which Broadus did not match up with particularly well. The Lodge Grass defense was able to find their way through the defenders many times during the game, often putting pressure on...

We have applied to the Montana Department of Commerce for the Delivering Local Assistance Grant to help defray some of the cost for the high school roof. Hi Billy, My thoughts about the death of K Huckins. TRIBUTE Kemo Sahbee. For a time this is how K Huckins and I tagged and greeted each each other. We borrowed the term from one of the oft-recurring Lone Ranger fads. This one during the 1950s, a time when K and I buddied about during our late teens and early twenties. Broadus. Miles City. Billings (Rocky Mountain College). Country dances. Double dating. Beer drinking. Rites of passage. Although distance (1,500 miles) has separated us for many years, I'm now dealing with another passage: the...
