    By Sean Hill, Powder River County Health Officer Two Powder River Manor residents have passed away from COVID-19. On Thursday, October 8, 2020 a female resident passed after a brief illness with COVID related symptoms. Subsequent testing revealed positive results. On Monday, a second female resident passed who had tested positive two weeks earlier and experienced mild symptoms, however after the prolonged illness succumbed to it.     The Broadus School Board Trustees met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday. The full school board was on hand for the meeting, including Rob Jones, Raquel Mader, Waylon Billing, Patrick Emmons, Amanda Zimmer, Danny Johnson, Lori Fortner, and Shasta Madsen. The board approved attendance requests for several out of district elementary and junior high students to attend school in Broadus, as well as transportation contracts for the majority of the students.     On October 6th, the Powder River Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture held their Commissioner Candidate Forum live on Facebook. The forum featured the two candidates for the Powder River County District 1 Commissioner position – incumbent Republican candidate Rod Schaffer and Independent challenger John Olson.     By PR Extension Office Show your community spirit by decorating a straw bale to celebrate Homecoming and Halloween. Powder River Extension and the Chamber of Commerce and Ag have teamed up to organize a straw bale decorating contest.     Broadus hosted the MonDak Thunder football team last Friday. MonDak is a coop team from Westby, Montana, located in extreme northeastern Montana, and Grenora, North Dakota. MonDak has had Class C 6 Man State Championships, and made the move up to 8-man football after their enrollment increased.     A smoke tendril from the Burley Fire drifts over the landscape last week, as the sun rises through smoky skies in the background. The blaze began last Tuesday from a bale hauling truck which caught fire, the wind then sent the flames racing down the Rough Creek/Cache Creek divide, southwest of Broadus.     Thursday, October 18, 1990 Lady Hawks demolish Forsyth on Homecoming Jerry Coulter’s Broadus Lady Hawks extended their record to 11 wins and only two losses with a 62 to 48-point Homecoming win over Forsyth Saturday night. Broadus controlled the game throughout. The Lady Hawks jumped to an 18 to 13 first quarter lead and never looked back. By half time, the Lady Hawks were up by 16 points, 41 to 25.     The Wrangler Team Roping Championships Finals took place at MetraPark in Billings, MT, September 28-October 4th.     The Broadus Lady Hawk Cross Country team ran at the Miles City Invitational on Saturday, October 3rd, and then at Colstrip on Thursday, October 8th. In Miles City, two of the five Broadus runners set personal records – Rheanna Schroeder with a 24:11, and Abigail Martin with a 27:48.     The Broadus Lady Hawks traveled to Ekalaka last week to face the Lady Bulldogs, a team Broadus had already beaten at the beginning of the season.
