    The Hawk football team suffered a tough loss last Friday evening as they fell to the Park City Panthers in a close game at home in Broadus. Not only was the loss of the game important for the Hawks, a head injury suffered by Hawk Quarterback Cooper Zimmer in the 4th quarter sent hearts racing as Zimmer was brought off the sidelines on a backboard, having collapsed after leaving the field.     The Broadus Lady Hawk Cross Country team ran at the Custer County Invitational last Saturday. The race was held at the Miles City Town and Country Club, a location which Broadus XC Coach Ashley Emmons noted led to nice times for the runners, especially due to the flat nature of the golf course in Miles City. Sophomore Rebekah Rasmussen led the Lady Hawks with a 25:02. Sophomore Alix Heacock, running in her first XC race ran a 28:13, and Freshman Gracey Bradley ran a 28:52 in her first varsity race.     HELENA – Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus was detected in wild birds and domestic poultry in Montana earlier this year. While HPAI cases in wild birds did appear to decline over the summer, there are detections of new cases in parts of the U.S., including Montana this fall. HPAI viruses are extremely infectious and fatal to poultry and some species of wild birds.     The weather in September was hot, with temperatures trending 5 degrees above normal for the month in Broadus. Record daily highs were recorded on three days, from the 7th through the 9th, with highs of 106, 105, and 101 on successive days. The 67.4 degree monthly mean temperature was also a record in Broadus; the previous record came in 2015, with an average temperature of 66.9.
