  • October 1st storm takes out power

    Oct 3, 2019

If this year's weather has felt a little like we were living Seattle, Washington or Anchorage, Alaska instead of Eastern Montana, there's a good reason for that feeling: on September 28th, Broadus passed its all-time precipitation record for the year, with 21.58" of precitation. That's for January through December, which means we still have three months of precipitation to record. The previous annual precipitation record came in 1923, with 21.38". Weather data for Broadus began in 1920, but the...

    Oct 3, 2019

The Broadus Volleyball team played in two matches over the past week, last Tuesday at St. Labre, and on Saturday at home, hosting Ekalaka. With a fresh win against Jordan on September 20th providing motivation, the Broadus ladies made the trip over Home Creek Divide and across the Tongue River to St. Labre. Unfortunately for the Lady Hawks, the tall Class B players of St. Labre would have something to say about Broadus' newfound confidence. Coach Gordon Archer commented on the match: "I'll give...

Cody" as a flamboyant and controversial showman, an Army scout and a hunter. In this area specifically, Cody's more famous exploits are an essential aspect of our local...

  • MT FWP Big Game Forecast

    Oct 3, 2019

By MT FWP Destination: SOUTHEAST MONTANA – Region 7 Southeast Montana experienced above-average rainfall this summer, which produced abundant forage and cover for wildlife. Good habitat conditions will benefit wildlife populations, but that can actually make hunting more difficult, especially during the early season. With water and green forage available nearly everywhere on the landscape, critters remain spread out and difficult to find. They won’t be concentrated near wetter areas or areas with thermal cover until the forage dries out and i...

Courtesy PR Extension Service What if the first person in Powder River County that had a leafy spurge plant back in the 1950's knew what it was, recognized its ability to invade and sprayed/pulled/dug and destroyed it? And, then warned all the surrounding landowners about it? We have received such a warning, regarding the grassy weed Ventenata, according to Mary Rumph, Powder River Extension Agent.
